I called for a Summer check up. I knew in advance that we had a potential issue with low refrigerant. We just did not know why. Our tech spent over 3 hours filling our unit with 4 lbs. of refrigerant. In the end he recommended replacing the compressor or the whole unit. I called another company for a second opinion. The issue was actually with the expansion valve on the coil. Unfortunately since the original Aksarben tech flooded the unit it ended up blowing a valve on the compressor. It was misdiagnosed by Aksarben and then more damage was inflicted by Aksarben. We are now having a new unit installed inside and outside. The new tech diagnosed it within 40 minutes. The new company is installing and will have my business moving forward. "Best of Omaha" doesn't mean anything. Anyone can have people vote for that. Instead GOOD, ACCURATE work is what matters. I will continue to post negative reviews and tell as many people that I can. Poor work Aksarben.

During spring inspection of air conditioning in May of 2013, tech Tim H "pushed" us to sign up for the Home Service Program. We tried to decline but he continued to push. He promoted all that we would be getting and made us feel "stupid" if we declined such a deal. Reluctantly we went ahead. After one year, we decided to cancel. We ran into a brick wall at customer service where we eventually were dumped into a voice message box. Not sure if that was the end of it or not as we did not receive a callback to confirm. However, we were billed again the next month. Called c/s back on July 11 to make sure it would be canceled and were told that we owed 4 more months of payments before we could cancel since we had service in June. Very confusing. If Tim H had explained the program the way Amy in C/S did, we NEVER would have signed up. Very dishonest. By Amy's snippy, condescending tone, it appears that she has dealt with these complaints before and was very defensive. Have used Aksarben in the past, but after this experience we are through. Also, prices are way too high!

He made sure I knew exactly what he was doing, all questions were taken care of so that I could actually understand what he was talking about, His customer service was outstanding. Aksarben is VERY lucky to have Northstar working for them. I know if I need service, I want Northstar to be my tech. Great experience, felt very good at the completion of the work, went over every step with me about what was done. He also coached me on what to do and look for so problems do not pop up. Great job, I couldn't be happier with the service.

These guys are fantastic! It feels so good to find a company that provides such great service. Call them and follow their recommendations - they really know their stuff. Follow up review: In my original review I was concerned that the furnace is louder than I expected. Aksarben contacted me after I posted my review and scheduled an appointment to check the unit. I told the person who called that it is unnecessary because I was happy with their service and he said, "I understand that you are 95% happy with your new furnace but lets see if we can get you 100% happy with it." Tech came by and inspected unit to find that it is running like it should, then he explained what a variable speed unit does. I had misunderstood the Burton guy who sold me on the variable speed technology. The Burton guy said that I wouldn't even hear the unit when it is on fan mode and that I would only hear it when it kicked on to provide heat or air conditioning. At least that is how I understood him. So when we priced with Aksarben I already wanted a variable speed unit. The sales man tried to steer me toward a less expensive product because he didn't think a variable speed would give us enough savings to justify the added expense. I really wish I would have listened to him. He could have easily sold me more than I needed but he tried to just sell us a product that would meet our needs. The tech who came out to check the noise level explained to me that the variable speed just comes on slower than other furnaces: it is only less noisy in the few seconds that the furnace is coming on (which is true). The noise I hear is the airflow in the ducts. He showed me the difference and I am satisfied with his explanation. These guys are so great. Definitely call them first.

Professional, courteous, knowledgeable and honest. Price was better than the competitors. Only complaint is that the furnace is loud even when it is set for fan only. I haven't noticed that it blows softer when not using heat and I'm not so sure it is a variable speed unit.

Tech Nathan stated he had to "red tag" our furnace and turn off the gas as we had a carbon monoxide leak. Nathan said we had a cracked heat exchanger (didn't mention that this part, had it been broken, was actually under warranty. The part cost $1005.00) Called A1 for a second opinion after the salesman also deceived us stating we wouldn't have to worry - the new furnace has a 10 yr warranty on the heat exchanger (so did the current one). NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH OUR FURNACE -- NO LEAK NO CRACK!!!

  • Type of Work Performed: Installed a water heater.
  • Date of Work Performed: Less than a week ago.

Finally, please tell us about your experience with this contractor:

The worst plumbing company ever!! I am a single woman living on a very low income. I purchased a water heater from Home Depot and unfortunately, they use Aksarben Plumbing to install them. The first thing the Aksarben guy did when he came out to install the water heater was to try and sell me a new water shut off valve (the one on top of the heater). The existing one worked fine (I had just used it to turn the water heater off), but the guy said it was "too hard" to turn. He didn't even try to turn it. They wanted $200.00 for that. Then he said he would have to charge me for shortening the water pipes because the new water heater was taller. By the time the water heater was installed, it ended up blowing 3 pressure valves. The plumber told me there must have been "a run of defective valves from the factory". I told him that the utility serviceman was out here and mentioned my water pressure was high. He then attempted to check the pressure, but said his gauge "wasn't working". He then told me I probably needed another pressure relief device that lowers the pressure of the water coming into my house. Another $400.00. I told him I didn't have another $400.00. I told him I would have to borrow the money first. He said, in that case he would not be able to turn the water heater on because the third valve on the heater was also blown. I was getting very angry because he should have assessed the system and told me that before taking out my old water heater! He then wanted me to "sign off" on the install. I said, "I can't sign off on the install because I don't know if the water heater even works". He stormed out. The next day I had a master plumber friend replace the main pressure regulator and another relief valve. It blew too. The next day, I called Home Depot and told them to get the water heater out because I felt it was defective. They said it would cost me $200.00 for the plumber to remove it. I then called Home Depot Customer Care. They talked to Aksarben and Aksarben lied and told them that their installer informed me at the start that I needed a new pressure regulator and an expansion tank, and that I refused it. They also told Home Depot that I wrote "refused" on the invoice where it said that they recommended the pressure relief valve and an expansion tank. They also said that the "customer" told them not to turn the water heater on. I told the Home Depot rep that all of it was a pack of lies. And if I did sign "refused" on the invoice, where is MY copy? Aksarben lied over and over again to the Home Depot rep and the Home Depot rep took their side. When I asked him why, he said, "Because we hired them". Home Depot and Aksarben Plumbing, two companies that should be put out of business.

Buyer BEWARE! Every time there were more repairs needed and with each time it became more and more expensive! We were eventually told there was a leak and that the unit needed to be replaced after only 11 years!!! We had a Carrier specialist out to look at it and he fixed it for a part that only cost $11. The Carrier specialist also noted that Aksarben installed a kicker for the capacitor which was expensive when they only had to replace the $11 part itself. It is unfortunate that this customer has come away from her experience with aksarben with such a negative reaction. Our records indicate that the kicker for the capacitor she refers to was part of her initial equipment installation in 2002 and was installed to help her maximize the life of her system by lowering the initial amperage required at start up. Over the next 9 years, our records indicate parts replacement of around $250. We do not view this as either extensive or expensive repairs. We service and install Carrier products and are also Carrier specialists.

  • Type of Work Performed: Multiple service calls.
  • Date of Work Performed: Original installation and multiple calls over five years.

Finally, please tell us about your experience with this contractor:

The contractor originally sold and installed the units for the prior owner. I continued to use them six times over a five year period as they had all of the unit's history and part info. With each service call, the cost has significantly increased. The latest tech told me that my 10 year old unit was essentially a construction grade system and not really designed to last more than 8 to 10 years. He proceeded to quote me $539 for a new compressor motor, $239 for a new capacitor, $130 to track down a freon leak, and $250 for new 'renew' oil. Then, he put the sell on that I probably should think about getting a new system. He indicated the cost to fix the leak (when found) would run between $1200 and $1800 PLUS the added cost of the freon (est at $250). The great thing about the Internet is that you can check prices. I found the exact GE motor for sale in Grianger for $139 and the associated capacitor for $7. Now, I don't mind a company making a reasonable profit, but a 500% mark-up and the hard sell on a new system is unforgivable. I strongly advice avoiding this company.

We have spoken with this customer regarding his recent experience with our company. While near-wholesale pricing for replacement parts may be available, the expertise to diagnose and complete the repairs, as well as the service warranties available from a professional service company, are not included. Our quote to repair this unit included the labor costs of having a skilled HVAC technician onsite with the proper diagnostic equipment and tools until the job was completed satisfactorily, including finding and repairing the leak and replacing refrigerant. We regret that we were not able to meet this customer’s expectations.

The service team is very good. On time and very professional. However, communication is lacking between techs and office. Sales person possibly wrote down wrong number on order sheet. We requested a Rheem unit and recieved a far insuperior Weather King unit. I asked installer if the unit I recieved was a Rheem and I was told it was made by Rheem. I do not blame the installer for any of the problems that occured after installation, nor do I blame any of the 4 techs that followed. They were doing the job they were asked to do. For 3 weeks my family endured a faulty Weather King unit(that we did not order)with high humitity in our house and high temps that this unit did not control due to a bad compressor! The blame may fall on the sales person who could have wrote down the wrong model number. Communication is definetly lacking. We now have what we ordered, Rheem. The techs are very good and professional. Your sales Dept, well....obviously needs some work. What I really want to know is, why was a Weather King installed when I wanted a Rheem?

Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience with us. Rheem is the manufacturer of Weather King and some model numbers are shared between the two lines. This may explain how the error occurred, but doesn’t negate the fact that we made an error! We apologize that you and your family were inconvenienced during the time it took for us to make it right. We will certainly take your comments to heart as we work to ensure that we are delivering both the products and the customer service our customers expect! Thank you for your comments!
