New Energy Legislation Drafted…

April 14th, 2009 by Paul Johnston

The American Clean Energy and Security Act is currently in sub committee and is expected to be out of committee before Memorial Day.  The Act would include huge opportunities for consumers to improve the energy efficiency of their homes:  $500 rebate for the consumer to have a home energy audit and up to $3,000 for the consumer to improve their energy usage…green job training provided to help people get great jobs in the emerging fields of renewable, energy audits, and climate change migration….smart grid technology assistance for making appliances and utilities capable of communicating demand and cost to improve the efficiency of our existing power sources.

This is just the tip of the ice berg!  The legislation would be the most far reaching energy plan in history!!!!

Even in 1978, Experts Reccomended High-Efficiency Air Conditioning

April 9th, 2009 by AJ Nahmad

Just surfing the web and came across this article about air conditioning from 1978!  Funny to see that while so much has changed, so much has stayed the same.  For instance, it’s no longer true that “Americans use more electricity just to run their air conditioners than is produced in all of China” (in fact that seems ridiculous now, doesn’t it?).   On the other hand, it was as true in 1978 as it is 2009 that “today most Americans consider [air conditioning] a necessity rather than the luxury.”

We sometimes forget that A/C is a mid-20th Century invention.  Being cool on a hot summer day has become one of those things that we don’t question and just take for granted.  Homeowners should take notice of their A/C every once in a while though.

Ask yourself if it’s time to upgrade.  We’ve got a great Energy Calculator that can help you…it calculates not only how much money you can save, but also how your energy savings translates to taking cars off the road or doing the work of trees in a forest.

16 SEER: Save Money, Save Trees

April 7th, 2009 by AJ Nahmad

If the average efficiency rating of air conditioning equipment in Florida homes was raised to 16 SEER (and there is equipment rated as high as 23 SEER) it would cut electricity usage by approximately 8 Billion kWh.  This would save homeowners $850 million dollars per year in electric bills and prevent the emission of roughly 6 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.  That’s the equivalent of removing 670,000 cars from the road or doing the work of 17,400,000 trees. Over an average 12 year life span of these air conditioning systems, the savings would be astronomical – 93 Billion kWh, $10.3 Billion in homeowner savings, 72 million tons of CO2.

It is so easy, and more affordable than ever to do your part.  All of the contractors in our directory can insall a 16 SEER system for you.  Pick one out for yourself.
