Can A Heat Pump Thermostat Generate Different Temperatures In Different Rooms?

I was told by Sears that I do not need Freon but may need a new thermostat. My home is single story. The front part of the house stays cool and the back gets warm, recently. I know something is wrong with it because I keep it on 76 degrees and the other day, in the morning, it reflected 64 degrees. I was wondering can a thermostat regulate such a various in the air vent?

The heat pump is nine years old.
