The diagnosis came about from the unit would kick on and shut off in a matter of 30 sec. No air was coming out of the vents. We had freon input once because initially, no cool air was coming out. They defrosted the coils and so forth and then we were good to go for about a month. Now this. It appeared to be a short from how it sounded, but supposedly it's the motor?

Motors can short out so this is possible. When units freeze up this occurs for only 2 reasons: low on freon or lack of airflow. Lack of airflow can be dirty coils, dirty filters, or no airflow due to a bad motor. Most furnaces have a psc motor and cost between $350-$550 depending on the size and what company you call to install it. IF by chance you have a variable speed motor they can range from $900-$1500 depending on who you call.
